Art Nouveau Death Commission

I have had the pleasure of doing two Death of the Endless commissions recently. This piece is particularly unique because it fills the end pages of an epic collections of commissions (all of Death) from an impressive list of artist. It is a truly special book and an honour to complete the collection.

The design measures 13 x 34 cm and was drawn directly onto the back inside cover and last page using Copic fineliners and black ink.  I also designed a new signature monogram especially for this piece which I think I will use from now on.

Fairytale “Jewel Thief”

This idea started out as a concept for a new web banner combining symbols from classic fairytales. As I work on it more it developed into its own story of a fairy thief and a magic glowing jewel.

I slowly worked on inking this image a bit at a time in a quiet moment or two as a way to relax amongst all of the events of the last few months.

I still need to make a new web banner but I enjoyed the journey this piece took.

“Mermay” Eel Mermaid Sketch

I didn’t want to May to finish before I did at least one #mermay drawing! This is a blue color pencil and pen sketch of eel like mermaid concept that might feature in the comic I’ve started.

I think I still need to refine the character more working on the balance of alluring but frightening.

Kiki’s Delivery Service Prints

Kiki’s Delivery Service is one of my favourite movies. She is so hopeful and brave, dreaming and finding her way.  The conversation between her and her friend about magic and art needing inspiration struck a cord.

“Stop trying. Take long walks. Look at scenery. Doze off at noon. Don’t even think about flying. And then, pretty soon, you’ll be flying again.” – Ursula

I will be selling prints of this painting at Supanova to go with my Princess Mononoke tribute painting I did last year.

Find me and both prints at Table 74 in the Grand Pavilion!

Princess Leia Art Nouveau Painting

My finished art nouveau inspired Princess Leia painting for the #KickBrainCancer charity auction in May. I’m donating the framed original painting to help raise money for Cure Brain Cancer.

Beautiful Monsters Watercolors – Werewolf

Two dear friends (thank you Ellen and Dave) have encouraged me to start up my “Beautiful Monsters” watercolor series again after abandoning it a few years ago. I had planned out the paintings but never saw them through. The concept for “Werewolf” made an appearance in my Inktober sketches this year.

And now the completed painting joins “Vampire” and “Siren”. I have two other monsters from my initial sketches that I hope will be realized soon.

Grumbacher watercolors, micron pen on 300gm fine grain cold pressed.

Bonus Inktober 2016 Time lapse Video !

Bonus Inktober 2016 Time lapse Video!

I wasn’t able to get this video posted before the end of Oct but I thought I would still share it. Learning from my first video – the camera is moved to my left side so the drawing isn’t covered by my hand and I’ve tried to have more light. Nearly all of my inktober drawing were done after I finished everything else for the day meaning they were done often late into the night.

The video has been sped up 16x to show a little over half and hour of inking. My tools for all of my inktober drawings-Castell XF 0.7 mechanical pencil, Mircon pens on toned paper and A3 LED light pad.

I hope to share more process videos in the future and perhaps some tutorials as well.

Inktober Day 31 – Ghoul (Back Dated)

*I was fairly certain that I posted it on the day but that post seems to have disappeared. So here it is again!*

#inktober2016 Day 31 – Ghoul

Hungry, the creature feasts on the long dead found in a forgotten tomb.

Happy Halloween!

With a mixture of relief and sadness another Inktober comes to an end. It was a challenge to find time to do a drawing each day but I am really pleased that I could see it through. As rushed as some of these drawing are I am happy with all of them. It has been great practice and really good to draw on paper everyday.
