D&D Group Character Portrait Commission

I was recently commissioned to illustrate a D&D group as a gift for their DM. They are playing in a Japanese and Chinese inspired fantasy setting which made designing their costumes and armour so much fun. I loved capturing the details and personalities of each of the players’ characters.

From left to right: Shaylynn Galascient a Sunrise High Elf Eldritch Knight armed with her magical flaming long sword, Sora Loarn a human monk martial artist and archer, General Vandrar Bloodtørst a Hill Dwarf Paladin heavily armed with ranseur, warhammer and short javelins and holding his sacred Forever Stone, Maki is a perky human Warlock equipped with her Robe of Useful Things and her treasured Book of Shadows, Thrym is a Therian Rogue a charming thief with trusty Rope of Climbing, daggers, goblin bow and cleaver.

“Naiad” Illustration

Inspired by the often tragic myths and fairy tales of a mortal’s love for a water nymph. Digital Painting.

“He would take her for his bride,

Beautiful like the mist and sparkling water,

But he could not take the river in his arms.

Naiad”

“Naiad” Finished Line Work

The final line work for my latest fairytale inspired piece “Naiad”. I have a few more like this I am very excited to do!

Oz Comic-Con Melbourne 2018

I wanted to share some photos from last weekend Oz Comic-con and say a big thank everyone who came by to support me with their kind words and purchasing my work

I did my first playmat con sketch and got an amazing Space Dandy sketch from Jeffrey Cruz “Chamba” for my partner James to say thank you for all his help.

My sister, Maggie had her Comic con debut sharing my table selling her handmade and gloriously sparkly one of a kind earrings – Check out her work at Showgirl Pearls

Dr. Sketchy’s Life Drawing with Chase Paradise

A fiery and funny night at Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School Melbourne last week with Chase Paradise #strippacomic!
I am having a great time loosening up and scribbling with my watercolor pencils

#mermay Mermaid Drawings

I’ve had some health problems lately and I decided to draw mermaids to cheer myself up #mermay

Fairlady 300ZX “Woodblock” Painting

Something a bit different – Japanese woodblock print style 300ZX Fairlady I painted as a birthday present for a friend based on his own beautifully restored and lovingly converted street/racer Nissan.
The scene is on “Benkei Bridge” looking towards a modern Tokyo.

Tarzan

Tarzan – strong and wary. He is at one with the jungle.

An ink and watercolor piece I did earlier this year as a birthday present for my very dear and very talented artist friend. Find him on instagram – https://www.instagram.com/loopydavestuff/ and shower him with compliments and money

I wanted to capture the feel of old 3 color printed bookcovers using only yellow, green and black to build the image. I completely redrew the line work 4 times before I was happy with it.

Valkyrie

“She has come for me,
Moonlight is her face
Ravens, her cloak
Through the cold mist
On the now silent battlefield.
VALKYRIE”

I had this idea and sketched out a tiny scribbley thumbnail about a year ago. I started collecting reference images and refined the sketch. I would work on it when I got a chance but it wouldn’t look right. So I would leave it. I would restart again with the thumbnail. More reference. Restarting it again. And again. And again.

And then something clicked and I restarted and finished the painting in about a week. What clicked? Her wings couldn’t be majestically outspread, to be descending they would be pulled back and smaller. And the composition fell into place.

Indiana Jones Ink Drawing

Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of my favourite movies. It has everything that makes a great story. And the cinematography is masterful.
Has Harrison Ford always been a cool grumpy old man?
