I’m getting a double dose of life drawing this week with the return of Dr. Sketchy’s this past Sunday (Yeah! Sketches soon) and with the next Covert Characters tomorrow!
“Freshly Fallen Snow”
Sketching out ideas on brown paper… I had an image in my mind of a large fringed shawl trailing through the snow, a girl in her night dress lead into the darkness. She is changed, her encounter leaving marks like impressions in the freshly fallen snow.
I’m a big fan of Lupin the 3rd (Lupin III) and I just finished watching the latest series (The Italian Game) and wanted to try sketching with a brush pen. I think I either need a finer brush pen or to make my sketches larger. But I like the idea so I might try making this as a finished painting.
But rather than cancel, my brave and beautiful friends stepped in to model! As a warm up (and to wait for the model to hopefully arrive) the class drew each other around the room. I attempted to sketch my best friend, Nicole, as she drew me but with us both talking and moving around it was more challenging then expected.
Then my friend Tara volunteered to do short poses for the class (clothed).
By this stage it was clear that the scheduled model was not going to make it to the class, our lovely host Cindy took it upon herself to model for us all.
Thank you my friends, you all were fantastic!
He joined his sister, the Unicorn Mable Pines plush in his new home in May.
Inspired by the Gravity Falls character Dipper Pines this is a custom designed werewolf plush.
The completed plush stands roughly 6 inches tall (8-10 inches long to including his tail).
The plush includes the characters birthmark, hand-embroidered on his forehead under his hair.
He has machine embroidered appliqué eyes and felt claws.
Made from dark brown Minky fleece he is small but cuddly.
For fun today I thought I would sketch Hunter from Neil Gaiman’s novel Neverwhere dressed in her battle trophies. I have never watch the TV series but I really enjoyed the book.
Pencil drawing over watercolor wash.
Our last session of life drawing at Covert Characters had the lovely Annaleigh, as Josephine Baker in her iconic banana skirt, striking some of her famous poses. Beautiful, jazzy and fun!
Looking forward to going to tonight’s session 😀
Fairytale Portrait – Snow White – inspired by the theory that Grimm’s Fairy Tale is based on the life of Margaretha von Waldeck, a German countess.
I liked the idea of her as real girl, in her own time and dress. And her story has then been woven into a tale that is still being retold today.
I read to today that it is the 3oth Anniversary of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth <3
It is one of a kind and is possibly the films that has influenced me the most. To celebrate, not only the film, but the amazing people that made it so magical, a did a quick sketch from the ballroom scene.
