Watch My OZ Comic-Con Workshop on Twitch

I had a great time at Oz Comic-Con this weekend! Thank you to everyone that came by my table and supported me with your kind words and purchases.

Like every event I could not make it through without my wonderful helpers and friends <3 I am especially grateful to my sister and Ben for coming to help on Sunday when I did my first ever workshop.  That is a photo of me doing last minute revision and notes for my presentation looking deceptively calm.

If you are interested in seeing my workshop the video is available to watch on Twitch through the link below:

I will take questions after the workshop or you can visit me at Table 66 near the Comic District.

Elvis Themed Life Drawing!

This class was so much fun! My friend The Knave is incredible as Elvis! He brought great tunes and a great rock n roll attitude 🙂

I’m teaching my next life drawing class is on July 5th with a James Bond theme! More details coming soon on the Covert Characters page.

Dr Sketchy’s Life Drawing featuring Zelia Rose

I had a great night 2 weeks ago sketching and catching up with friends at the always fabulous Dr Sketchy’s Melbourne!

Zelia Rose is stunning, her costumes (made by her) were beautiful and so rich in detail. I did my best to capture her grace and glowing smile.

New Ripley/Alien Prints

New Ripley/Alien Print!

This piece is for my dear friend Ellen- keep going, keep fighting.

I wanted try to create a tribute to the 1979 Alien film but I felt that the soft romantic Art Nouveau style that I love wouldn’t be appropriate. But the style of Aubrey Beardsley and H.R. Giger’s Xenomorphs had a certain harmony.

Knowing that both artist studied architecture I found inspiration for the composition in the depictions of St George in church windows.

I will have a limited number of A3 posters of this piece at Oz Comic-con Melbourne on July 1-2. Find me at Table 66 near the “Comic District”.

Ziggy Stardust Themed Life Drawing

We started off our June music themed life drawing sessions with a bang! The multi-talented and delightful Hamish treated us to a song and was every bit a rockstar as Ziggy Stardust.

Our music theme continues in our next session on June 21st featuring none other than the King, Elvis Presley!  Join us for a hip shaking and fun sketching!

Details can be found on the Covert Characters FB page.

Surrealist Cloud Themed Life Drawing

Last life drawing class featuring Tilley and her fantastic Cloud Surrealist costume. The poses and costume made for a dream like atmosphere for us to capture.

If anyone is interested my next class with Covert Characters will be tomorrow night, June 7th. Details about this and upcoming classes can be found on the website.

Team Arrow Commission

Something a bit different from my usual style – this is a commission I finished recently for a Green Arrow fan combining his favourite versions of Team Arrow.

In the future he plans to get a version of this illustration as a tattoo so it was very important to get all of the details right!

It is always fun to draw superheros. It reminds me of how much I loved comics growing up and the hours I pored over them and the hours and hours I spent drawing the characters from them.

The characters depicted belong to their respective copyright holders.

Fairytale “Jewel Thief”

This idea started out as a concept for a new web banner combining symbols from classic fairytales. As I work on it more it developed into its own story of a fairy thief and a magic glowing jewel.

I slowly worked on inking this image a bit at a time in a quiet moment or two as a way to relax amongst all of the events of the last few months.

I still need to make a new web banner but I enjoyed the journey this piece took.
