OZ Comic-Con Melbourne July 1-2

I will be at Table 66 at OZ Comic-Con Melbourne next weekend, July 1-2. Not only will I be selling prints and plush toys I am teaching a workshop!

If you are around on the Sunday at 4:00pm I will be talking about creating unique character designs and how to improve your figure drawing. I should be at the “Community Stage” but check your Event Guide. It’s that booklet that you get that you only look at once you’re back home…

Dr Sketchy’s Life Drawing featuring Zelia Rose

I had a great night 2 weeks ago sketching and catching up with friends at the always fabulous Dr Sketchy’s Melbourne!

Zelia Rose is stunning, her costumes (made by her) were beautiful and so rich in detail. I did my best to capture her grace and glowing smile.

New Ripley/Alien Prints

New Ripley/Alien Print!

This piece is for my dear friend Ellen- keep going, keep fighting.

I wanted try to create a tribute to the 1979 Alien film but I felt that the soft romantic Art Nouveau style that I love wouldn’t be appropriate. But the style of Aubrey Beardsley and H.R. Giger’s Xenomorphs had a certain harmony.

Knowing that both artist studied architecture I found inspiration for the composition in the depictions of St George in church windows.

I will have a limited number of A3 posters of this piece at Oz Comic-con Melbourne on July 1-2. Find me at Table 66 near the “Comic District”.

Team Arrow Commission

Something a bit different from my usual style – this is a commission I finished recently for a Green Arrow fan combining his favourite versions of Team Arrow.

In the future he plans to get a version of this illustration as a tattoo so it was very important to get all of the details right!

It is always fun to draw superheros. It reminds me of how much I loved comics growing up and the hours I pored over them and the hours and hours I spent drawing the characters from them.

The characters depicted belong to their respective copyright holders.

Fairytale “Jewel Thief”

This idea started out as a concept for a new web banner combining symbols from classic fairytales. As I work on it more it developed into its own story of a fairy thief and a magic glowing jewel.

I slowly worked on inking this image a bit at a time in a quiet moment or two as a way to relax amongst all of the events of the last few months.

I still need to make a new web banner but I enjoyed the journey this piece took.

“Mermay” Eel Mermaid Sketch

I didn’t want to May to finish before I did at least one #mermay drawing! This is a blue color pencil and pen sketch of eel like mermaid concept that might feature in the comic I’ve started.

I think I still need to refine the character more working on the balance of alluring but frightening.

Robin Hood Themed Life Drawing Session

Seeing Craig, our model, share one of my drawings on Instagram reminded me that I had forgotten to share my sketches from the start of the month!

These sketches are from Covert Character’s Robin Hood themed night. I think there was a great Classical feel to the poses like each one could be a sculpture or figure from an old oil painting.

More information about my up coming life drawing classes can be found on the Covert Characters Facebook page>

Original “Princess Leia” Painting Auction

There are only a few days left to place a bid on my original painting “Princess Leia” for The Force Kick Brain Cancer charity auction.

My piece can be found here>

This is for the original ink and watercolor artwork not a print. The pieces comes framed and the artwork measures 340 x 480 mm.

Follow this Ebay Link to see all of the great artwork donated to support awareness and funding to cure brain cancer.

FCBD Sketching “Little Boy with Headphones” Time Lapse Video

As part of Free Comic Book Day, All Star Comics Melbourne has an Artist Alley where local artist do free sketches to raise money for the charity, Beyond Blue.

This was my second year participating and this year we set up the camera to record the afternoons sketching.

“Little Boy with Headphones” is probably my favourite drawing of the day. You can see through out the video the boy’s hand pointing at the photo of himself on the phone.

Thank you to everyone that came by to watch, support the cause and request a sketch!

Free Comic Book Day 2017 Artist Alley with All Star Comics Melbourne

Last weekend was Free Comic Book Day and I want to thank the crew at All Star Comics Melbourne for inviting me back to their FCBD Artist Alley this year!

Thank you to everyone that stop to watch me draw, get a sketch and make a donation to this year’s cause – Beyond Blue.

It was especially nice to have friends and family stop by to support me

If I had to pick a favourite sketch from this year I would have to pick the little boy in the headphones.
