Death Portrait Commission

I realised I forgot to share the finished version of this commission from last month. The client asked for a Mucha inspired Death from the Endless “sketch”. She is one of my favourite comicbook characters so I was excited to get started!

This is my first ever “con sketch” commission and it was so much fun to do I think I will have to do more.

New Ripley/Alien Prints

New Ripley/Alien Print!

This piece is for my dear friend Ellen- keep going, keep fighting.

I wanted try to create a tribute to the 1979 Alien film but I felt that the soft romantic Art Nouveau style that I love wouldn’t be appropriate. But the style of Aubrey Beardsley and H.R. Giger’s Xenomorphs had a certain harmony.

Knowing that both artist studied architecture I found inspiration for the composition in the depictions of St George in church windows.

I will have a limited number of A3 posters of this piece at Oz Comic-con Melbourne on July 1-2. Find me at Table 66 near the “Comic District”.

Fairytale Portrait – Snow White

FairytalePortrait_SnowWhite_01

Fairytale Portrait – Snow White – inspired by the theory that Grimm’s Fairy Tale is based on the life of  Margaretha von Waldeck, a German countess.

I liked the idea of her as real girl, in her own time and dress. And her story has then been woven into a tale that is still being retold today.

Jim Henson’s Labyrinth 30th Anniversary Sketch

Labyrinth_01

I read to today that it is the 3oth Anniversary of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth <3

It is one of a kind and is possibly the films that has influenced me the most. To celebrate, not only the film, but the amazing people that made it so magical, a did a quick sketch from the ballroom scene.

Susan Sto Helit – Discworld Sketch

Susan Sto Helit - Character Sketch Terry Pratchett's Discworld

It has been a very busy few weeks so it was nice to get to sit down and unwind with a drawing just for fun. This is a sketch of Susan Sto Helit from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series building on the inktober sketch I did of her last year. I drew this in about 2 hours last night before bed with a CastellXF 0.7 mechanical pencil.

Covert Characters Life Drawing – Ameena

LifeDrawing_CovertCharacters_Ameena_01

When our usual fabulous Cover Characters host Cindy couldn’t take the class last month she asked if I could take over the session with the help of my best friend and art buddy Nicole.

It was my first time teaching a life drawing class but I had a  great and unexpected response from the artist that attended. Hosting the session I wasn’t able to get as much sketching done as I would have liked but I was able to get some quick drawings at the start and through some of the longer poses.

Our beautiful model Ameena was lovely and very understanding of our lack of experience <3

Korben Dallas – 5th Element

The companion piece to my Supreme Being painting – Korben Dallas.  The 5th Element is one of my all time favourite movies and Bruce Willis is the coolest (Die Hard being one of my most favourite movies too!)

I will be selling prints of both at Supanova Melbourne in April.

Month of Love – Fantasy: Fern Heart

Fern Heart

Month of Love: Fantasy

“Fern Heart”

“The Oldest of all, the Queen of the Forest hid her heart

Under lock and blade, By frond and key”

From a very rough thumbnail this painting, along with her story developed very quickly. I found inking the tiny plant details very soothing.
