Princess Leia: A New Hope -Painting In Progress

My tribute in progress to an amazing lady and with what it going on in the world for all the amazing women throughout history who have stood their ground. I will be donating the finished painting to the #kickbraincancer charity auction. This sketch was inspired by Alphonse Mucha’s ‘La Trappistine‘ poster.

Custom Bahamut Dragon Plush from FF7

This custom designed Bahamut plush dragon from Final Fantasy 7 is probably one of the most complicated plush toys I have made so far.

The plush is made from fleece and felt and stands at only 8 inch tall – roughly 12-13 inches tall including the wings and spikes.
He has glittery gold felt eyes and the claws are silvery grey. The wings are fully wired and pose-able and help the plush stand on its own. All the embroidery details have been done freehand by machine.

Lupin the 3rd Sketch

LupinIII_01

I’m a big fan of Lupin the 3rd (Lupin III) and I just finished watching the latest series (The Italian Game) and wanted to try sketching with a brush pen. I think I either need a finer brush pen or to make my sketches larger. But I like the idea so I might try making this as a finished painting.

Neverwhere – Hunter Character Sketch

Neverwhere_Hunter_Sketch_01

For fun today I thought I would sketch Hunter from Neil Gaiman’s novel Neverwhere dressed in her battle trophies. I have never watch the TV series but I really enjoyed the book.

Pencil drawing over watercolor wash.

LifeDrawing_CovertCharacters_ Annaleigh_JosephineBaker_01

Our last session of life drawing at Covert Characters had the lovely Annaleigh, as Josephine Baker in her iconic banana skirt, striking some of her famous poses. Beautiful, jazzy and fun!

Looking forward to going to tonight’s session 😀

Jim Henson’s Labyrinth 30th Anniversary Sketch

Labyrinth_01

I read to today that it is the 3oth Anniversary of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth <3

It is one of a kind and is possibly the films that has influenced me the most. To celebrate, not only the film, but the amazing people that made it so magical, a did a quick sketch from the ballroom scene.

Castell XF 0.7 mechanical pencil and white colored pencil on brown paper -approx. 40min

Strip Strip Hooray – Melbourne

StripStripHooray_2016_01

This weekend I got to cross “See Dita Perform” off my life to-do list! Strip Strip Hooray returned to Melbourne for 2 encore shows after the first sold out within hours and I wasn’t going to miss my chance!

All of the performers were incredible and EVERYTHING sparkled! Dita’s iconic performances are iconic for good reason. She is impossibly graceful and precise yet genuinely seemed to enjoy herself.  Did I mention that everything was sparkly – breathtakingly, dazzlingly sparkly.

The opening act was her Martini Glass routine and the crowd was instantly mesmerised. When she splashed it looked like diamonds falling in slow motion. This small (14x19cm) painting is my attempt to capture that.

Susan Sto Helit – Discworld Sketch

Susan Sto Helit - Character Sketch Terry Pratchett's Discworld

It has been a very busy few weeks so it was nice to get to sit down and unwind with a drawing just for fun. This is a sketch of Susan Sto Helit from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series building on the inktober sketch I did of her last year. I drew this in about 2 hours last night before bed with a CastellXF 0.7 mechanical pencil.

OZ ComicCon is This Weekend!

I will be at Table 28 (My Beautiful Monsters by Lily McDonnell) in the Artist Alley all this weekend, June 11-12th!

I have large and small prints, postcards, magnets and new plush toys for sale. Looking forward to busy nerdy weekend!

Rocky Horror Life Drawing

Earlier this month Covert Characters  had a Rocky Horror themed life drawing night with our very own fabulous Frank N Furter striking beautiful poses.

The very talented Hamish immediately dazzled us with a song and stayed in character for the whole session!
