I’m pretty excited to announce that I will be hosting these classes more regularly! I will be sharing more tips on sketching and interpreting the figure in each class.
I will be hosting tomorrow nights Warrior themed Covert Characters Life Drawing session! I will start the class around 6:15 to go over some tips on drawing the figure and drawing from life.
Covert Characters is a very relaxed class that encourages people to have fun creating art. There is an easy atmosphere with refreshments and drawing materials provided making it a great class for beginners and artists wanting to enjoy an evening practising sketching.
Details on the session can be found here>

To start the session I gave a few tips on proportion and drawing faces. I also encouraged everyone to explore and enjoy themselves rather than stress about creating masterpieces. Life drawing is for practising observation and studying the figure with a model as inspiration and their form as a guide.
And we had a lovely model to inspire us – Tijana with her grace and crown of flowers looked very much like an elven princess!
Thank you very much to all the artist that joined us, I hope you found the session helpful as well as fun.
Cindy, the host and organiser of Covert Characters, and I are discussing the possibility of me teaching more classes in the future. So stay tuned for more about that 🙂

I will be sharing some tips on figure drawing and drawing from life at the start of the session. If you have never done life drawing before or simply would like to enjoy a fun, critique-free night of sketching I can highly recommend coming along a to Covert Characters. I will be happy to help people individually throughout Wednesday’s class should anyone want more instruction.
I look forward to see my lovely art-friends and meeting more of you.
For those who are curious I do all of my life drawing on a A3 sketch pad, primarily with a black Polychromos Faber-Castel pencil. I then photograph the pages and collect the images together in photoshop.
Unfortunately we arrived late (my fault, my friends had to pick me up from the train) so we sat on the floor and to the side. So all of my sketches are from this unusual view point. And this meant I was only able to see one of the models during the longer poses.
I’m getting a double dose of life drawing this week with the return of Dr. Sketchy’s this past Sunday (Yeah! Sketches soon) and with the next Covert Characters tomorrow!
But rather than cancel, my brave and beautiful friends stepped in to model! As a warm up (and to wait for the model to hopefully arrive) the class drew each other around the room. I attempted to sketch my best friend, Nicole, as she drew me but with us both talking and moving around it was more challenging then expected.
Then my friend Tara volunteered to do short poses for the class (clothed).
By this stage it was clear that the scheduled model was not going to make it to the class, our lovely host Cindy took it upon herself to model for us all.
Thank you my friends, you all were fantastic!
Our last session of life drawing at Covert Characters had the lovely Annaleigh, as Josephine Baker in her iconic banana skirt, striking some of her famous poses. Beautiful, jazzy and fun!
Looking forward to going to tonight’s session 😀
