Covert Characters’ Warrior Session

For my second time officially hosting the Covert Characters Life Drawing class we a warrior themed night. Our model, Craig, was great and made my job so easy. He even made do with the broomstick and sticks we could scrounge up and held some fantastic dynamic poses.

I’m pretty excited to announce that I will be hosting these classes more regularly!  I will be sharing more tips on sketching and interpreting the figure in each class.

Surprise Life Drawing Hosting!

My Covert Characters Life Drawing Session with Tijana

This Wednesday I had the pleasure of guest hosting my regular life drawing class, Covert Characters with the support of my friend and talented photographer, Nicole McGrath.

To start the session I gave a few tips on proportion and drawing faces. I also encouraged everyone to explore and enjoy themselves rather than stress about creating masterpieces. Life drawing is for practising observation and studying the figure with a model as inspiration and their form as a guide.

And we had a lovely model to inspire us – Tijana with her grace and crown of flowers looked very much like an elven princess!

Thank you very much to all the artist that joined us, I hope you found the session helpful as well as fun.

Cindy, the host and organiser of Covert Characters, and I are discussing the possibility of me teaching more classes in the future. So stay tuned for more about that 🙂

Life Drawing with Erik Vent

I really enjoy the variety of models and themes we are treated to at Covert Characters. Last week we had the privilege to draw the very handsome model, Erik.

For those who are curious I do all of my life drawing on a A3 sketch pad, primarily with a black Polychromos Faber-Castel pencil. I then photograph the pages and collect the images together in photoshop.

Return of Dr. Sketchy’s!

After over a year long break Dr. Sketchy’s Melbourne is back! Although no longer monthly and in a new venue it is just as fun and friendly as ever. “The Homage to the Hiney” had 3 bootylicious performers showing off what they got –  Frankie Valentine , Miss Jane Doe and Bella De Jac.

Unfortunately we arrived late (my fault, my friends had to pick me up from the train) so we sat on the floor and to the side. So all of my sketches are from this unusual view point. And this meant I was only able to see one of the models during the longer poses.

Life Drawing Showgirl Sarah Jayne

Our last Covert Characters Life Drawing session featured Sarah Jayne in her showgirl style. We got some great flirty poses, showing lots of leg and showing off her elegant headdress.

I’m getting a double dose of life drawing this week with the return of Dr. Sketchy’s this past Sunday (Yeah! Sketches soon) and with the next Covert Characters tomorrow!
