May the Fourth be with you – Happy Star Wars Day!

Happy #StarWarsDay #MaytheFourth
Here are some of my tributes to Star Wars from the last couple of years. The movies have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember so it was only recently that I realised what a influence they have been

Robert Smith Art Nouveau Portrait

A very special ink drawing commission of Robert Smith from The Cure. I took inspiration from their album covers and music videos designing the motifs.
Copic Multiliners and Dr. Ph. Martin’s india ink on Bristol board.

If you are interested in commissioning a drawing  email me – lily@mybeautifulmonsters.com

Death Portrait Commission

I realised I forgot to share the finished version of this commission from last month. The client asked for a Mucha inspired Death from the Endless “sketch”. She is one of my favourite comicbook characters so I was excited to get started!

This is my first ever “con sketch” commission and it was so much fun to do I think I will have to do more.

Dr Sketchy’s Life Drawing -Vintage Beauties & Yves Klein Tribute

Gallery Notice : Images have either not been selected or couldn't be found

Another magical night with Dr Sketchy’s! Camilla & Michelle were dazzling vintage beauties and than beautiful blue muses. The performance and poses to follow inspired by Yves Klein was something truly special!

It was a really fun experiment with drawing with the blue watercolor pencil and then paint over it with water. I then could draw over the wet paper again to emphasis shadows and lines.

Looking forward to the next wild art party!

Art Nouveau Death Commission

I have had the pleasure of doing two Death of the Endless commissions recently. This piece is particularly unique because it fills the end pages of an epic collections of commissions (all of Death) from an impressive list of artist. It is a truly special book and an honour to complete the collection.

The design measures 13 x 34 cm and was drawn directly onto the back inside cover and last page using Copic fineliners and black ink.  I also designed a new signature monogram especially for this piece which I think I will use from now on.

Another great night of life drawing with Covert Characters! Our model John was both the dynamic hero and sophisticated man of mystery. We continue our movie themed classes with a tribute to “The Wild Ones” next Wednesday night. The beautiful Tijana will be playing Marlon Brando with her motorcycle! Yes there will be a motorcycle inside the studio for you to draw 🙂

Elvis Themed Life Drawing!

This class was so much fun! My friend The Knave is incredible as Elvis! He brought great tunes and a great rock n roll attitude 🙂

I’m teaching my next life drawing class is on July 5th with a James Bond theme! More details coming soon on the Covert Characters page.

New Ripley/Alien Prints

New Ripley/Alien Print!

This piece is for my dear friend Ellen- keep going, keep fighting.

I wanted try to create a tribute to the 1979 Alien film but I felt that the soft romantic Art Nouveau style that I love wouldn’t be appropriate. But the style of Aubrey Beardsley and H.R. Giger’s Xenomorphs had a certain harmony.

Knowing that both artist studied architecture I found inspiration for the composition in the depictions of St George in church windows.

I will have a limited number of A3 posters of this piece at Oz Comic-con Melbourne on July 1-2. Find me at Table 66 near the “Comic District”.
